"Up up"

Can I just say how much fun it is to sit back and just watch her right now? She's hilarious. She's not just learning new words to communicate with us; she's also learning all those other ways of telling us things. Like why bother to say "no" when shaking your head is so much more fun?

First, "Lily, can I have a hug?"

She shakes her head no. My little explorer is busy relocating everything in her bottom drawer to the top drawer.

Later, "Lily, can I have a kiss?"

She shakes her head no. She's busy trying to fit her binky into a block.

Then, Khan comes along and tells her they're going to change her diaper, in Laotian.

She shakes her head no. (She's not a fan of diaper changes.) But how cool is that? She understood him! Even cooler than that, I did too!

So, in her own way, she likes to tell us "No, I'm not gonna do that," but what's even funnier is that she also likes to tell others - in her own way - "No, don't do that." She wags her finger and says "uh unh uh uh." She does that to Kitty and to the other kids at daycare. Funny!

Today, she shooshed Blake at daycare. He was getting loud, and she put her finger to her mouth and said "sssshhhh." Her teachers were pretty amused by that!

As for new words, we've got a couple of new additions this week. When she wants to be picked up, she raises her arms and says "up up." And when she's all done eating, she does the sign for "all done," and says "ah da."

And last but certainly not least, she added one very big one to her vocab this week. She says "dada" for Khan. It's quite possible that she's been saying this for a while, but she babbles "dadadada" all the time, so I didn't know if she really knew the word or not, but this week I've been quite convinced that she says it to refer to her daddy! She still babbles it just like she babbles "baba," but when she wants to say "Dada," she does. Sweet, huh?

Anyway, so for my own records, here's an updated version of her current vocab:

Uh-oh (Easily her favorite word.We hear this at least 20 times a day.)
Mama (Not really sure if she knows the meaning for this one or not.)
Dada (Still babbles it, but definitely uses it with meaning and in context, too.)
Nana (Just as a repeat for "Nana," sorry Mom, and she also says "nana" for "banana.")
Bubba (For Bubba the little white dog, for Kitty, and just for random babbling.)
Buh-bye
Eddie (Her little friend at daycare.)
Up up
All done (Ah da)


And she signs:

Other:
She waves hi and bye
She wags her finger to say "uh unh uh" for "no"
She shakes her head "no"
She puts her finger to her mouth and says "shush"
